A locked Spirit shop

Wing Buffs are additional Winged Light you acquire by ascending your friendships with Spirits using Ascended-candle-icon-Morybel-0146 Ascended Candles. They are one of the hardest collectible items to obtain in Sky.

Overview[]

Winglight

A wing lock with unlocked status

The Wing Buff looks like a wing with a lock symbol in the spirit Friendship Tree. You can only purchase the Wing Buff after obtaining all items below it in the tree's trunk. Purchasing it clears the cloud obscuring the higher-level items in the friendship tree, and unlocks the next item up the Friendship Tree (which is typically the Level 3 upgrade of the spirit's expression). Higher-cost Cosmetics also appear in the levels above the Wing Buff.

Every regular spirit has at least one wing buff available in their Friendship Tree. 49 Wing Buffs in total can be obtained from Regular Spirits (as of January 13). 37 of these are standard Tier 1 Wing Buffs. The remaining 12 are Tier 2 Wing Buffs that are more expensive and unlock bonus content, such as Tier 2 Capes. The Tier 2 Wing Buffs (and any items unlocked by them) do not need to be purchased to complete the realm's constellation. TGC has been gradually introducing new Tier 2 items, so the number of available Tier 2 Wing Buffs is likely to increase in future.

In addition, when Seasonal Spirits return as Traveling Spirits they also always have one wing buff in their Friendship Tree, always costing 2 Ascended Candle.[1] 74 Wing Buffs total have become available from Traveling Spirits (as of January 13). These Wing Buffs are new items that were not available from the Seasonal Spirits during the season where they were first introduced. However, each spirit's Wing Buff can only be purchased once, even if the spirit returns multiple times as a Traveling Spirit.

New players can reliably obtain one Wing Buff every two weeks from a Traveling Spirit. But there is no way for new players to retroactively obtain Wing Buffs from all the past Traveling Spirit -- other than to wait for each spirit's next return. Therefore, the maximum number of Wing Buffs available to new players will always be lower than the maximum number available to veteran players.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Superficially, Wing Buffs look similar to all the other collectibles available from Friendship Trees. However, acquiring Wing Buffs and using them are both integrally connected to the Eye of Eden, requiring players to travel through Orbit at the end of Eden.

The Ascended Candles necessary to purchase Wing Buffs are available by traveling through Eden or completing Shard Eruptions. At most 15.75 Ascended Candles can be obtained from Eden per week.

Furthermore, any newly purchased wing buffs only increase your Winged Light after your next trip through Eden; you do not immediately gain any Winged Light after the purchase. All the spirits you have ascended are waiting for you at the end of Orbit and give you the Wing Buffs as you pass them, immediately before you are reborn.

You obtain Ascended Candles immediately before reaching the Constellation Table in Orbit at the end of Eden, and therefore it is advisable to spend most of those candles at that table before you are reborn. At least 2 Ascended Candles should be kept in reserve, however, for the next Traveling Spirit.

If you lose Winged Light for any reason (e.g., because of rain, Dark Dragons, etc.), you will first lose the Winged Light given to you by Children of Light, meaning you normally can recover those wings without returning to Eden. However, if you lose all the wings from Children of Light, you will begin to lose your Wing Buffs. To regain those Wing Buffs, you will have to return to Eden and be reborn again.
