Video Guide by Tara

The Tearful Light Miner can be found in a cave near the end of Boneyard, to the right of the broken bridges leading to the Temple. There are four openings in the roof of the cave, in addition to the two ground-level entrances that are blocked by Darkness Plants. This Spirit is a standard memory quest with 5 memory fragments and an unlimited overall time limit. All of the memory fragments are sheltered from the rain.

As their memory unfolds, the Tearful Light Miner and three other Spirits are seen trapped within the cave by the Darkness Plants covering the entrances. Several large boulders then collapse and pin down two of the unfortunate Spirits, and the Tearful Light Miner and remaining Spirit desperately attempt to free them from the rubble - to no avail.

Some time later, a pair of grave markers made of small stones are stacked in the center of the cave in honor of their memory. The desolate Tearful Light Miner rests with the other surviving Spirit, who has since been engulfed by a Darkness Plant that the player must burn. They do not survive, and the Tearful Light Miner is once again left behind with another addition to the grave markers.

At the end of the memory, the Tearful Light Miner remains the sole survivor of the tragedy. Filled with grief over their fallen companions, they cover their face with their hands and weep.

Expression[]

This Spirit offers the TearfulLightMiner-1 Crying Expression, which has 6 Levels. It is one of only two Expressions to have 6 Levels instead of the usual 4 (the other being WavingBellmaker-1 Wave).

Levels 5 and 6 (and the second Wing Buff that unlocks them) are not needed to complete Hidden Forest's Constellation.

TearfulLightMiner-1
  • Level 1 will make your avatar hunch forward and tilt their head down, with both hands raised to cover their face as they cry.
  • Level 2 makes the same motion as Level 1 with light particles representing tears falling from their eyes.
  • Level 3 will make your avatar fall to their knees and slump forward, with their hands raised to cover their face as they cry.
  • Level 4 makes the same motion as Level 3 with light particles representing tears falling from their eyes.
  • Level 5 will make your avatar slump and fall onto their back to flail all four limbs in a tantrum, and then splay out with a huff.
  • Level 6 makes the same motion as Level 5 with light particles representing tears falling from their eyes.

The prices of the five Expression upgrades are 3 Candle, 4 Candle, 4 Candle, 5 Candle, and 5 Candle. Levels 3 and 4 are only available after unlocking the Spirit's first Wing Buff, with Levels 5 and 6 only available after unlocking the second.

Trivia[]

  • A bug was introduced in Patch 0.21.5 that blocked progression of the Tearful Light Miner's memory, as the 2nd memory fragment was placed out of reach. The Spirit's memory could still be completed by using OOB tricks to access the misplaced fragment. This bug was later fixed in Patch 0.22.0.
  • Darkness Plants covering the two ground entrances to the Tearful Light Miner's cave, Darkness Plants on the Whale Whisperer covering the skeleton of the Boneyard, and in the Rejecting Voyager's cave Darkness Plants in Isle of Dawn are Darknesses that cannot be burned by players with not enough Winged Lights. If a player try to burn Darkness Plants with less than 3 wedges for Whale Whisperer, less than 2 for Rejecting Voyager, and less than 1 for Tearful Light Miner, will receive a message that says, "You need more Four-point-star-Ray to melt this."
