The Season of Shattering is the fourteenth seasonal event in the live version of Sky since the global release, following Season of Performance. It began at 00:00 Monday, July 11, 2022 (all times PDT, UTC-7), and with it, eruptions that threaten the kingdom with Darkness. The event ended on 23:59 on September 26, 2022 [1], lasting 78 days.

The Season of Shattering adopted a whole new format, happening in all the Realms of Sky (except for Isle of Dawn).

Season of Shattering Trailer

Welcome[]

Welcome to the Season of Shattering!

The ground shakes and the sky darkens... Unite, Sky kids, and bring your light to Season of Shattering!

This Season took a different approach to telling a new facet of the story of Sky. In place of Spirits who once lived in Sky’s towns and villages sharing their memories, shards of Darkness hold glimpses of memories for players to find. Talk to the Void of Shattering, whose presence as the Season Guide is linked to the eruptions, to begin the Seasonal Quests that unlock those memories. Then set forth to clear certain Shard Eruptions.

Note that Season of Shattering can be enjoyed by all players who have progressed through at least Hidden Forest.

The Void of Shattering[]

The void of Shattering

The Void of Shattering

All of the cosmetics for Season of Shattering could be found in the Void of Shattering by opening the diamond's tree located at home. There were no Spirits and no Expressions to gather in this Season. The voids are a moment locked in time.

When teleporting to the Void of Shattering players would find two special entities: "Ancient Light" represented by a structure made of still Jellyfish and Mantas, and the "Ancient Darkness" represented by a structure in the shape of a Dark Dragon and Darkness Plants.

Both structures have two friendship trees where players could obtain new cosmetics.

Shard Eruption Events[]

A Shard Eruption is a gameplay system introduced with the Season of Shattering. Almost every day, Shards periodically erupt from the mountain on the horizon, falling multiple times a day in one predetermined location in the Realm, indicated by the embedded shards on the Realm's portal. The exact location in the Realm follows a set schedule.

Completing Strong Eruptions is required in order to reach the maximum total of Winged Light due to the existence of Shard Memories.

You can read about the Current Schedule and different Shard eruptions on the Shard Eruptions page.

NOTE: These are outdated and true only when the Season of Shattering was occurring.

During the Season after Patch 0.18.5, shard events had regular rules:

  • Black shard events occurs from Monday to Thursday.
  • Red shard events occurs from Friday to Sunday.
  • The start time begins at Reset:
    • Reset + 1 hour 4 minutes (Sunday)
    • Reset + 59 minutes (Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday)
    • Reset + 58 minutes (Tuesday and Thursday)
    • Reset + 44 minutes (Friday)
The shards are present continuously for 50 minutes, once every two hours throughout the day. A shard event should always be active 30 minutes after each odd hour.[2]

Daily Quests & Seasonal Candles[]

Daily Quests[]

Collect Seasonal Candles throughout the Season to trade with the entities for their cosmetics. A total of 6 seasonal candles were available to gather.

  • Each day the Shattering diamond stood next to a Realm's portal, indicating where the day's daily quests could have been completed. Players would earn one seasonal candle per quest completed. After completing all 4 quests, players could claim their reward at the meditation shrine at home. (4 candles)
  • Players could also collect an extra candle by collecting the 4 seasonal bunches (more information on the "Seasonal bunches locations" below). (1 candle)
  • Players who had the Season Pass could claim a Seasonal Candle at Home as a free daily bonus. (1 candle)

Seasonal Candle Bunches Locations[]

The seasonal candle bunches were found towards the beginning of each realm again.

Child of Light Locations[]

There were 6 Winged Light added by the Season of Shattering:

Spirit Memory Quests[]

A piece of frozen memory from Eye of Eden.

–Ancient Memory opening

To start each season quest, players must first talk to the Void of Shattering and select the next quest icon. They are told:

  • Some fallen shards erupted from Eye of Eden bringing memories of the past. Find them in the Kingdom of Sky.

To proceed, players need to find a Shard Eruption Event in the daily quest realm and complete the event. This requires first burning enough darkness at the shard for a meditation circle to appear, then completing the mini-quest triggered by the meditation circle, and finally, activating the Void of Shattering diamond that appears. Players will be teleported to a void space (named Ancient Memory) that completes the quest. During the Season, players could also collect one free Heart of the Void of Shattering after completing the quest. Since the Season is over, players completing each quest have to pay 3 Candle to obtain each heart. Starting the quest when inside the corresponding Ancient Memory will immediately complete the quest.

Quest #1[]

SOShattering-Quest1-Void

Jellyfish Void

The light that swirled here was not warm
These were no drifting currents
Songs lost to the void
Bewildered in final moments of stillness

TGC Tweet on Jellyfish Memory

The void space for the first quest is filled with many frozen, floating jellyfish. Standing on the jellyfish recharges the player's winged light, and they can jump from one jellyfish to another to reach a Child of Light higher in the void.

Quest #2[]

SOShattering-Quest2-Void

Darkness Void

Entranced by strange brilliance
And swept into its snare
A familiar glow that hid
Nothingness in its wake

TGC Tweet on Dark Crab Memory

The second memory will take the player to a void space filled with many crabs and floating darkness. This void is relatively easy to explore. Players can fly from one darkness to another to reach a Child of Light at the top, but a charging prop or friends are recommended since players' wing power might deplete before reaching the Child of Light if they don't have a lot of wing power.

Quest #3[]

SOShattering-Quest3-Void

Manta Void

Soft wings flowing to bright beacons
Drawn from the path, trusting until too late
Bound in a merciless harness
Soft wings despairing against stone

TGC Tweet on Manta Memory

The third memory will take the player to a void space filled with a flock of flying Mantas. This void isn't hard to visit, but a charging prop or friend could help players get further, as significant cape power is needed to fly from manta to manta to reach the Child of Light standing high up on a manta.

Quest #4[]

SOShattering-Quest4-void

Dark Dragons Void

Ascending towards darkness
A distorted reflection
The hunter relentless to sate
Insatiable hunger

TGC Tweet on Dark Dragon Memory

The fourth memory will take the player to a void space filled with Dark Dragons. This void is moderate to difficult to explore and a charging prop will be needed if players want to travel from one Dragon to another. There is a Child of Light between the Guide and the Home Shrine.

Quest #5[]

SOShattering-Quest5-Void

Whale Void

The distant call beyond reach
Echoes swallowed in a scouring silence
Empty light scattering the fragments
Of a spirit sundered in the break

TGC Tweet on Whale Memory

The fifth memory will take the player to a void space with four large whales. This void is rather difficult to visit and a charging prop or friend will be needed if players want to travel from one whale to another. Charging props and friends can also help players reach the Child of Light in a nook to the front left side of the centermost whale (when facing the whale's front).

Quest #6[]

SOShattering-Quest6-Void

Elders Void

Bare at the precipice
Unseen fractures crumble in the chasm
The stars under fathomless weight
Reaching to light and to dark
Carrying memory of all that was held

In the final moment of shattering

TGC Tweet on Elders Memory

The sixth memory will take the player to a void space filled with a large luminescent version of the Shattering diamond surrounded by all the Elders. This void is easy to medium in term of difficulty to visit, as all the crystal shards surrounding the main diamond will recharge players' flight energy to reach the 2* embracing Children of Light located right on top of the large diamond. *Although there are 2 Children of Light, collecting them only yields 1 winged light.

Spirits and Cosmetics[]

There were no Spirits in Season of Shattering; instead two structures were providing each two friendship trees full of Cosmetics. For the sake of distinction between friendship trees, we called them Jellyfish, Manta, Dragon and Darkness trees.

Trivia[]

  • The Season of Shattering was the first season without any new Expressions or Seasonal Spirits.
    • It is also the first season in which the Season Guide offers two of the same cosmetic type - both Ultimate Gifts are capes.
  • The Season of Shattering was the second season in which the Guide wasn't a spirit. The first was the Season of the Little Prince, with The Rose, and the third was the Season of AURORA, who was AURORA herself.
  • The first Shattering memory did not contain a winged light until the release of 0.18.5. Players had to wait until the third quest was released on August 5, 2022 to obtain the 200th winged light and reach 12 wedges for the first time.
