Capes are Cosmetics that represent a Sky Kid's ability to fly, and are the most visible piece of clothing worn by the player. The current Cape is selected in the second Outfit Shrine from the right. The Cape you wear does not affect your flying ability.
Cape stars and number of Winged Light required for each Level
The back of the player's Cape has a line of symbols showing their current Cape energy. In addition, any time the player is recharging, the entire Cape undergoes a color-change animation. This allows players to see each other energy levels, for example to know when a friend needs to be recharged. The Cape symbols are not, however, a direct indication of a player's experience because there are ways to lose Cape wedges.
On most Capes, the symbols are stars/diamonds, but specialty Capes may have season-specific or event-specific symbols. The number of symbols (including the outlines/frames) matches the player's total number of wedges. In other words, the 6th-10th Cape wedges are each represented by an outline around the 1st-5th diamond. The 11th and 12th wedges (the current maximum) are a second outline around the top two symbols. These symbols glow white if the corresponding Cape wedge is charged. They are dark if you have used up your energy.
Cape Color Guide[]
The colors of the Capes change slightly depending on the current brightness. The below photos were captured at Home during a sunset. All of the colors lighten a bit in bright daylight. The colors also change when the Cape is draining (e.g., if you stand in the rain in Forest). You can check the effects of different lightings on the Capes in the chart below.

The mobile Starter Pack is an in-app purchase for $4.99 that is available to mobile (iOS and Android) players and PlayStation players. (There is a separate Nintendo Starter Pack[2] and PlayStation Journey Pack as well). The mobile Starter Pack contains an orange Cape and 20 regular candles.

Tier 2 Capes[]
All Regular Spirit Capes have two levels (Tiers) of Cape. The Tier 2 Capes are the same overall color as the corresponding Tier 1 versions, but have a secondary accent color. They always cost three times as much as the Tier 1 Capes.

The Tier 2 Capes are intended to be bonus content for long-time players. They are always unlocked by a second Wing Buff that requires a large number of Ascended Candles. Neither the second Wing Buff nor the Tier 2 Cape need to be purchased as part of completing a Realm's Constellation.
Special Capes[]
In general, the only effect of changing your Cape is changing the visual appearance of your Cape. However, there are some Capes with special functions.
The Revival Ultimate Cape creates a rainbow light effect when flying through the air.
The Radiance of the Nine-Colored Deer gives the wearer and the friends they hold hands with a special ability to directly transport to a tranquil location and enjoy the company of that Season’s legendary creature when it periodically enters the space.
This table lists all the Capes that have ever been available in Sky; only a small subset of them are available for purchase at any given time. The default order is icon order, as used in the in-game Outfit Shrine. The table sort order can be changed by clicking on the header of any column. The color column lists the dominant color of each Cape to make it easier to find Capes based on their color.
Always available: can be purchased from a Regular (non-Seasonal) Spirit.

Always available: can permanently be purchased from a source other than a Regular Spirit.
S+Season Spirit (Current)
Available for current Season: can be purchased from a Spirit in current Season.
U+Ultimate Gift (Current)
Available for current Season: item is an Ultimate Gift in current Season, and is only available until the end of current Season to Season Pass holders. It will never be available after Season ends.
T*Traveling Spirit (Current)
Available for limited time: can be purchased from current Traveling Spirit.
R*Returning Spirit (Current)
Available for limited time: can be purchased from current Returning Spirit.
D*Days-specific Item (Current)
Available for limited time: item is available from current "Days of" event.
L*Limited Offer (Current)
Available for limited time: can be purchased as part of a current, limited-time offer.
DDays-specific Item
Periodically available: can be purchased during a future recurring "Days of" event.
SSeason Spirit
Rarely available: can be purchased from a past-Season Spirit only when they return as a Traveling Spirit or a Returning Spirit (dates unknown).

No longer available: item was an Ultimate Gift during a past Season, and will never be offered again.

No longer available: item was part of a limited-time offer that will never be repeated.

In Sky: Light Awaits, the Capes were much more detailed. However, they were simplified due to performance issues.
The Base Cape is featured in a piece of merch from thatskyshop, in the form of a Cape Mug.
The Radiance of the Nine-Colored Deer Cape stars with colors (top to bottom): blue, yellow, orange, red, and purple.
Unlike other capes, each of the Radiance of the Nine-Colored Deer Cape stars has a unique color.
